Day 3, Tuesday 4/4/23, Santa Rosa to Vernon

Bruce and I sketched out what we were going to do in Kansas City and St. Louis and came to the conclusion that we might have more to see in the Dallas area. Our plan was to go to Amarillo, have BBQ for lunch and then drive to at least Wichita Falls if not to Dallas for the night. We were halfway between Santa Rosa and Amarillo (about 75 miles each way) when a 4x4 appeared in the road ahead of us. We were going too fast to stop and there were cars in the other lane so we hit it. It managed to destroy both the front and back drivers' side tires.

We called AAA and they sent out a towing company to take us to Amarillo. They suggested a tire store, Discount Tires. Since we were on the shoulder of an interstate, we got high priority and the truck (with a tilt bed that the Telsa was driven up on) arrived in less than half an hour. The combined time to get the Tesla on the truck and then to drive to Amarillo took close to two hours. It took about an hour for Discount Tires to get the proper tires to the store and install them. Bruce and I walked to a nearby IHOP and had lunch while waiting.

Tomorrow we drive to Dallas. We have several things we want to do there including a railroad museum.

Here is the car being delivered to the tire store in Amarillo.

The front tire (and the back one for that matter) were destroyed

Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 266 miles (plus an additional 75 that didn't show up on the odometer).

On to day 4.
