We got up early, planning to get to New Orleans today. We were zipping down I-20 planning to have breakfast at the Collin Street Bakery in Lindale, TX while supercharging. About a third of the way, we heard a sound that suggested that we had run over something; we hadn't seen anything on the road. Shortly thereafter there we loud noises and we pulled over to the side of the road. Our brand new (3 days old) right front tire was torn to shreads. Now Bruce and I each have the honor of destroying a tire.
We knew the drill (alas). Fortunately, when we bought four tires three days ago, I purchased a
tire replacement policy. All we had to do was find a Discount Tire store that had one of the matching
tires, and then have AAA tow us to the store. It only took calls to six different stores before we
found the tire. It was in Rockwall, TX, about 30 miles from where we were waiting by the side of the
road. A very nice AAA driver picked us and the car up and deposited us at the store. They were kind
of busy and since today is Good Friday (but not a great Friday), they were closing at noon. They were able to
get our new tire mounted before they closed and we were on the road again. We're still a couple hundred
miles from New Orleans, but we're getting up early tomorrow and don't plan to destroy any more tires
on our way.
Here is the right front tire. Note that it is completely destroyed.
Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 364 miles.
