Day 13, Thursday, 7/18/2024, Cape Canaveral to South Carolina

Because we got in late last night, we were a little slow in getting up this morning. Our hotel did not have a free breakfast so we went to McDonalds. Next we drove to the Space Force in hopes of visiting the Space Force Museum that we could see on Google Maps. We got to the entrance to Space Force Base and were met by a nice, but heavily armed young man who informed us that we needed a visitor's pass and an escort. Neither of which we had. We then drove to the Kennedy Space Center that has a large collection of artifacts and a museum. We discovered that the entrance fee for seniors was $70 per person. Given that we had a private tour of the Houston NASA museum thanks to Dick's niece Kirsten, we took a few pictures from outside the entry and proceeded north.

Dick has never been to the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC, and it is almost on the way to Nashville. Hence we headed north. There was an amazing thunder and lightning display and torrential rain. It was so bad that we pulled off the freeway at the next exit and waited things out in a parking lot. We got to Yemassee, South Carolina around 7pm and checked into our hotel. Tomorrow we drive to Ashville, North Carolina.

Here are a couple pictures of the outside of the Kennedy Space Center.

Right after we crossed the state line into South Carolina, there was this nice sign.

Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 368 miles.
