Day 18, Tuesday, 7/23/2024, To Shamrock Texas

Today was a day of travel. In the morning, at the hotel, we worked on the web page for yesterday. Then we hit the road. First to the supercharger. There isn't a supercharger on the direct route from Van Buren to Oklahoma City. We could have charged the car enough to make the trip, but it was faster to only charge enough to get to Tulsa and then charge in Tulsa enough to get to Oklahoma City. If you look at the map, you might think we went way out of our way, but it was 11 minutes faster to go that way. When we were in Tulsa, we went to a strip of the old route 66 that runs below the town. There we went to a vehicle museum that had a very impressive (fake) gas pump visible from the road and some pretty cool cars. Tomorrow we head for Denver (or somewhere on the way from here).

Here is a picture of Bruce standing by the "gas pump". It shows the hose and nozzle. Apparently this was a major landmark on route 66.

Here are some pictures of cars that we took at the museum.

This is a GM electric car named EV1. I think you could only lease one. At the end of all the lease periods, they recalled and destroyed most of them. Dick had a friend who had two (him and wife) and he was not very happy about that.

Here is a more actual sized model of an early gas pump.

Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 421 miles.
