Day 2. Sunday, 7/27/2025, Crater Lake and Train Mountain

We drove to Crater Lake and looked at the beautiful scenery. We went out the North entrance because when we got to the place called Klamath County School District on this map, there was a Tesla Supercharger. Crater Lake is high enough that we used up a lot of the battery on the way up. Coming downhill to Train Mountain we had times when we added charge to the battery from regenerative braking. Here is a map of our route for the day.

The lake is in the caldera of a former volcano named Mt. Mazama.

The lake has a cinder cone island called Wizard Island that is 316 acres in size.

We have a picture of Dick's car (NIK II) at the same point on day 1 of adventure2. At that time there was so much snow that we had trouble getting to this lookout.

Here is a video of the full expanse of Crater Lake.

Train Mountain has 32 miles of 7.5 inch gauge track. This is 1/8 of reality. This is the longest scale model railroad in the world. The park is 2200 acres. There are a number of small trains with seating to ride on. We went for a rather long ride on one of them (not this one).

Bruce took this picture while we were riding on our train.

A little hard to see from this vantage point but this is a turntable. Bruce has been producing computer controlled turntables for model railroads for quite a while.
We went through a rather long tunnel.

They are creating buildings to the same scale as the railroad. This is a scan of "Lillyville" where they have around 70 buildings.

Back to day 1.

On to day 3.
