This is the 250th anniversary of the USA. We decided to visit the Vermillion Cliffs, just outside of Page. In the process, we visited Lees Ferry.
The road runs through some places where deep cuts were made in the rocks.
The Vermillion Cliffs have a deep red color produced by the high amounts
of iron oxide in the stone. They go on for many miles.
Marble Canyon is along the route. It is the site of the Historic
Navajo Bridge that goes across the Colorado River. There are two
bridges, one for vehicles and one for walkers. Here is a short video
of the bridge.
Once you cross the bridge, there is a road down to Lees Ferry,
the only place within a span of 700 miles where folks can get down to the
Colorado River without climbing
steep walls. It is a starting place for raft trips down the Colorado.
Bruce has taken a raft trip from Lees Ferry with each of his kids.
At the end of the day, we went back to our hotel in Page. As it started
getting dark, we heard fireworks. Luckily, the window of our hotel
room looked out onto the display.
At the end of the day, we had driven 112 miles.
