Day 9, Sunday, 7/05/2026. UTV to Horseshoe Bend

We booked a UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) trip that drove around the mesas near Page, culminating at Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River. Our driver and guide, Dave, was outstanding and we were with him for over 4 hours. We spent the rest of the day recovering from our adventure. The route shown below is the 7 miles (round trip) that we took in our car. There is no way we could trace the route that we took through the desert.

Here is Dave, the leader of our group. He drove the UTV that Bruce and I rode in. There was another couple who were driving themselves. The other couple almost turned over once. We were quite happy to have Dave driving.

Here are a couple more pictures. Notice the helmets that we had to wear.

Bruce took a video as we were bouncing over the sand. We spent some time trying to figure out how to rotate the movie but were unsuccessful. Tilt your head when you watch this!

We drove by a cave at the top of a slope. Over Bruce's shoulder, you can see ancient Native American footholds that are thought to be over 1000 years old.

The culmination of the UTV trip was at Horseshoe Bend where one can look down at the Colorado river taking a turn. We left the UTV in the parking lot to walk out to the viewpoint. The distance was longer than we expected. Dick's knee was not up to the full distance. Bruce walked the whole way with Dave and took a great video.

At the end of the day, we had driven only 7 miles. but had travelled quite a bit more in the UTV.

Back to day 8.
