Another day with a fair amount of travel. We got quite an early start (around 6:40) and drove east. We stopped at the Little Big Horn battleground monument and then to
the Chief Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore. We finished up the day by driving to Wall, SD, visiting Wall Drugs and checking into our hotel.
We visited the Little Big Horn Monument. Part of the battleground is a national cemetery which contains more than just the fallen from Custer's Last Stand.
The Crazy Horse Memorial has been under construction since 1948. Still a lot to be done. There is currently a face and a hand that are pretty far along. There is a lot more going on there besides the stone statue, including a museum and a university catering to indigenous American culture. They have a website at https://crazyhorsememorial.org that is worth visiting.
Mount Rushmore has a large museum and gift shop down below. I took a picture from there.
We didn't realize it ahead of time but the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is also this week. The town of Sturgis, South Dakota is right near Mount Rushmore so we saw hundreds of motorcycles around the area (we bypassed Sturgis but the participants were off looking at many of the same sights as we). We took a picture of a really cool tricycle that was parked at the service station next to the Tesla Supercharger.
In the town of Wall there is a drug store that is rather famous. We wandered about the store for a while but didn't buy much. They have a cafe but the menu didn't seem interesting.
We don't expect tomorrow to be very interesting. We need to get to Chicago and don't anticipate much sight-seeing along the way from here.
Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 537 miles.
