Starting Monday morning, August 7, 2023, my good friend Bruce and I are off on our fourth Tesla odyssey that goes to Chicago this time. We're taking my Model S since it is grandfathered into free super charging. We've planned a route (as shown on the map), but we have a lot of flexibility. Google maps says the planned route is close to 5000 miles. It gives a driving time of 73 hours, but that doesn't include time to stop and charge (or eat or sleep). We've had unplanned activities in two of our previous trips, so we're going to play this one as it comes.
We're going to Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse statuary in South Dakota. There are a number of museums we want to spend time at in Chicago. There is a huge railroad museum outside of Chicago and one in Denver that we will spend some time at. We will go through St. Louis to check out the arch and we will stop in Kansas City for BBQ. Bruce's son lives in Reno so we will stop there on our way back. I figure the trip will take between two and three weeks.
You can click on the map image to enlarge it. We are heading out via the northern
route and returning by the southern.
I haven't shown the SuperCharger stops on this map. We planned the route knowing that there will be lots of places to charge. We'll usually time those stops around mealtimes. We'll also tend to spend the night at hotels near a charger so that we can have lots of juice when we leave in the morning.
We will try to update this website every evening with a few pictures and short
descriptions of what we did that day.
