We had breakfast with Geoff and then drove to Bruce's house. Dick spent
the night there and then
drove home to Ashland the next morning.
We stopped in Vallejo to charge the car and asked the car to route us to Bruce's
house. It routed us around the bottom of the bay. We thought that was weird,
but given previous delays, maybe they were routing us to avoid congestion
that often occurs in the Berkley/Oakland/SF corridor. We tried to add a
waypoint so that we would go over the San Mateo Bridge, but it still routed
us to the bottom of the bay. As we were following the route, Bruce
realized that when we were in Florida, we had turned on the "avoid tolls"
navigation option. We turned it off and it routed us nicely through the San
Mateo bridge. Had we done it sooner, we would have gone across the Bay Bridge
and all the way down 280. Fortunately, Dick's car was already set up to
pay the toll.
Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 284 miles. For the entire
adventure, we had gone 8061 miles in 22 days. Of course, Dick had to
drive to and from his house to Bruce's, approximately 380 miles each way.
