Today we drove to Houston. We stopped in Brenham at the Blue Bell ice cream factory. They
didn't allow photos inside but sold nice scoops of their ice cream for $1 each. Bruce
and I each had one.
It's been about a week since Hurricane Beryl came straight through
Houston. Many of the traffic lights are either dark or blinking red. Some of the streets
(including
the Southwest Freeway) still have water across them. The most disturbing thing was that the hotel
at which we had confirmed reservations had no power and was not taking in customers. Fortunately
Joanne has two long sofas in her living room and they were remarkably comfortable to sleep on. We
went out for dinner to a good BBQ restaurant with Joanne and Kirsten and then had a fun time
just sitting around Kirsten's place drinking wine and visiting.

Here is water across a street in Houston. It was also like this at a point on the
Southwest Freeway. It was right at the entry to the freeway that
we were taking and both folks already on the freeway and those getting on were
moving VERY slowly.
We went to a very nice BBQ restaurant called The Pit Room. There were many side dish
options. This serving had green beans and corn (with goodies on top of the corn).
Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 185 miles.
