Day 9, Sunday, 7/14/2024, D'Iberville, MS to Madison, FL

Today was another day of travel but we first went to charge the car and then to Beauvoir, the last home of Jefferson Davis and location of his (Confederate) Presidential Library. We then drove to Florida stopping to charge the car and eat lunch at a Buc-ee's in Robertsdale, Alabama. Finally, we ended up in Madison, Florida for the night.

We drove to Beauvoir, which is on the gulf coast at Biloxi, Mississippi.

Here is a picture of Dick looking at the library building.

This is the front of the home where Davis lived. The original owner of the house was a rich plantation owner in Northern Alabama who built the house as a summer cottage.

It was important to show off your wealth, so the interior was artisticly painted everywhere. The ceiling of the entry parlor had trompe l'oeil paintings of mouldings.

Here are pictures of a couple of the other rooms.

On our route, we had to stop at a supercharger that was at a Buc-ee's mega truck stop. Traffic was backed up for 1/4 mile to get into the parking lot. It took us around 30 minutes to get to the chargers. It took us 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot, but that was only because Dick jumped around several long lines of vehicles. He felt a little bad about it, but was happy to be on his way. We talked to the staff and they said this is a typical Sunday in the summer.

Finally, at the end of the day, we had put in 366 miles.

Back to day 8.
