Over a year ago, Bruce and Dick planned a Utah Canyons trip going to a bunch of National Parks and Monuments in Utah and Arizona. Because Dick fell and messed up his knee, we took a more local adventure. Dick ended up having a knee replacement. He's still doing PT to get his range of motion back. He's can currently bend 105°, but hopes to get up to 120° before he stops PT (AKA Pain and Torture).
Here is our planned route. Dick is driving down to Menlo Park and we're heading south first. Dick has a daughter in the Bay Area and one in Beaumont, CA. Bruce has two brothers in different parts of Arizona. We decided to see family first so that we had more flexibility in our visits to monuments. We plan to spend several nights in Page, AZ and several nights in Moab, UT. On our way back home, we'll stop in Ely, NV at the train museum. They have a relatively newly restored steam engine that we were planning to ride on our last trip, but were unable to because Interstate 80 was closed on account of heavy snowfall. We'll stop and see Bruce's son in Reno then back to Menlo Park. Finally Dick will drive back to Ashland.
There are apparently some serious fires in the state of Utah at the moment, so our
plans could get altered.
